The latest Brenau Crosscountry News

What's new in the off season.

We've added two new faces to the Brenau cross country team this winter. Hillary Corey has joined the team and is quickly making her spot on the team. Also CeeCee Cook has joined the cross country team after finishing the season with the Brenau basketball team. Welcome ladies, we're so excited to have you on our team!

Coach McIntyre starts coaching at Brenau in 2006-2007 with local high school cross country experience and a rich personal background in training and competition.
In 2000, Susan began coaching the North Forsyth High School cross country team where her children attended school.  “There were many triumphant moments during my 5 years at North Forsyth.  Individually, our runners set many new personal records.  One of our girls earned the Iron Woman Award at the Naval Academy during her summer sessioin.  Our lead female runner won state her soph9omore year and for 3 years in a row we had two girls finish in the top ten at state.  As a team, in 2003 our girls were runners up at state.  Two other times they finished in the top 5 and top 10. The competition for the boys team was very tough in 4AAAA and we were very proud to make it to state twice.  My twins will be seniors this year at North Forsyth, so I will still be very interested in their season this fall.”
During the past 20 years Susan has enjoyed keeping physically fit.  “I started riding road bicycles in 1986 after the birth of my first son.  Most of my riding for the next 4 years was distance touring, but in 1989, after the birth of my twins, I got back on the bike and started taking my training seriously.  In 1990 I entered and won my first 3-stage bicycle race.  At this race I realized that endurance racing was my love.  I’ve ridden many centuries in Georgia and the Southern states.  At some point I decided to work on my running so I could participate in duathlons.  I spent the next 5 years racing duathlons.
Since this time Susan has run the Peachtree Road Race on the 4th of July and the Atlanta Half Marathon on Thanksgiving Day which has become a ritual for her family and running buddies.  She has also run the New York Marathon and the Country Music Marathon in Nashville, in the midst of which, she won the 24 Hours of Adrenalin Mountain Bike Race in Conyers as a solo rider.
Susan is excited to make the switch to collegiate coaching.  She says her approach to coaching is for each athlete to be the best they can be and to learn how their body ticks.  “Every runner is individual and I am committed to helping each runner achieve their goals.”  Obviously, given the love for training and competition, she and her family will continue to make running a part of their lives as well.

Susan has been married to Doug McIntyre for 26 years.  They have 3 children, Ryan, Zack and Corey, and Dakota, a black lab.
