Softball – 2007-2008 Season Outlook
The Golden Tiger softball team completed another winning season in 2007 in their third full year of competition. The team finished third in the conference tournament and once again narrowly missed a bid to the regionals and a chance at the National Tournament. They were led by 1st Team All Region, 1st Team All Conference selection and returning junior shortstop Maggie Renfro along with 1st Team All Conference returning pitcher Marisa Litster. Brooke Borders and Colleen Sparrow, both returning All Conference selections also helped pace the team for another record setting year.
Five new players will join the Golden Tigers for the 2008 season led by three standout junior college transfers. Smooth fielding infielder and left handed hitting Tori Fobb from Chipola Junior College leads the way coming off a Junior College National Championship season where she was named the MVP of the National Championship. Missy Herren, The Region XVIII Junior College Pitcher of the Year from Georgia Perimeter College is also coming off an appearance in the national championship tournament will add more depth to the experienced Tiger pitching staff. Rounding out the Junior College transfers is left handed slapper and speedster Katie Hulsey from Georgia Perimeter College.
Completing this year's team roster is the addition of two Freshman. Catcher Amanda Bills and Pitcher Shanna Brumbelow. Bills is a power hitting catcher that help lead Sequoyah to a AAAAA State Championship in 2006. Brumbelow is a Right handed pitcher that lead her team to an appearance in the AAA State Title game.
With more experience under their belt and the addition of more specialty positions players, the Golden Tigers look to be even more competitive with another legitimate shot at eh Conference Championship, regional berth, and a chance to play in the National Championship Tournament.
