2008 Fall Season Outlook
The Tigers finished the 2008 spring season third in the SSAC and with a number 20 national ranking. Other teams might be satisfied with this performance but for the Tigers It was a disappointing season. They just missed another trip to the National tournament for the first time in many years. It was a season marred by injuries to critical players at important points in the season. The schedule was demanding with several non-conference matches against Top 20 NCAA Division 2 competition. The Tigers finished the conference schedule with a 5-2 record and the season at 11-11.
The Tigers will play a fall schedule of at least 3 or 4 individual tournaments. Check this web-site for more details.
The Tigers will miss the steady play of Diana Cardenas who finished her tennis career at Brenau this spring. Coach Leslie has added stand-out UK freshman Hannah Thompson to the team for the fall. He is also expecting that Nelli Martiroysan, now recovered from elbow problems that plagued her last season, will be a big contributor to the team. Other returning players are seniors Paula Ghilardotti and Natalia Aranguren who will be joined by junior Jolene Wong , Shkurte Ejupi and Luba Orlova.
The Tigers will start their practice schedule in September with the main focus being on improving their strength, quickness, technique and overall conditioning.
